 1) Nat »King«, eigentlich Nathaniel Adams Coles ['kəʊlz], amerikanischer Jazzmusiker (Pianist und Sänger), * Montgomery (Ala.) 17. 3. 1917, ✝ Santa Monica (Calif.) 15. 2. 1965; hatte von 1939 an ein Klaviertrio (mit Gitarre und Bass). In den 50er-Jahren betätigte sich Cole vornehmlich als Schlagersänger.
 
 2) Thomas, amerikanischer Maler britischer Herkunft, * Bolton-le-Moors (heute Bolton) 1. 2. 1801, ✝ Catskill (N. Y.) 11. 2. 1848; kam 1819 in die USA. Seine Darstellungen der Catskill Mountains erweckten erstmals das Interesse an der amerikanischen Landschaft. Cole war Mitbegründer der Hudson River School. Neben realistischen Landschaften vom Hudson entstanden auch allegorische und religiöse Ideallandschaften (»Der Pokal des Riesen«, 1833; New York, Metropolitan Museum), die von den Surrealisten wieder entdeckt wurden.
